Please join Sarah Edo in an in-depth interview with writer and artist-researcher Nehal El Hadi, as she shares insights into research-creation methodologies through recent multidisciplinary projects, including her work on the entanglements of sand and Black life, her recent shadow puppetry production Ramla and the Desert, and other projects.
Facilitator Bio:
Nehal El-Hadi is a writer, researcher, and editor. Trained as an environmental journalist and urban planning scholar, Nehal’s work explores the relationships – with materials, technologies, objects and spaces/places – that define what it means to be human.
Moderator Bio:
Sarah Edo is a Toronto-based curator, writer, and researcher. She currently serves as the TD Curatorial Fellow at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery. Her previous curatorial fellowships and residencies include the Toronto Biennial of Art, the Gardiner Museum, and BAND Gallery, alongside curatorial support roles at the MacKenzie Art Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto. Sarah has guest curated exhibitions and film programs for Gallery TPW, the Art Gallery of Burlington, Whippersnapper Gallery, Images Festival, and Regard Noirs. She has also served on numerous juries and selection committees for public art commissions, craft awards, and film festivals. Her writing has been published in Topical Cream, Studio Magazine, ArtSpeak, Gallery 44, BlackFlash Magazine, and C Magazine. She holds both a BA and an MA from the University of Toronto, where she studied Cinema and Gender studies.
